Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall consisting of a buff disc within a scarlet annulet surmounted by a fret couped and barbed and ensigned with a demi-fleur-delis emitting a gold lightning flash left and right on the annulet above the inscription "STRENGTH IN DIVERSITY" in gold.

Symbolism
Buff and scarlet are colors associated with Support organizations.  The fret with barbed ends alludes to direction and scope of operations.  The barbs are symbolic of weaponry and equipment used by the unit.  The annulet and flashes refer to efficient mobility.  The interlacing of the fret represents coordinated control, and with the annulet and flashes, denotes the unit's overall mission of capabilities.  The couped fleur-de-lis signifies service in Europe and scarlet symbolizes the Meritorious Unit Commendation streamer inscribed "European Theater" awarded to the unit for service in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes-Alsace and Central Europe campaigns in World War II.  Blue refers to support of the Infantry.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 193d Support Battalion on 11 August 1978.  It was amended to include metric measurements in the description of the insignia and revise the symbolism on 26 February 1993.
